Intriguing Connections — CTS, Diabetes, Thyroid

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) may be more than it appears to be at first. It may be a harbinger for future metabolic disturbances.

CTS may be a precursor of diabetes. Thirty six per cent of people in a British study who had CTS later developed Type 2 diabetes, up to 10 years later.

Another doctor suggests a thyroid connection. He found that normalizing the low body temperatures found in low thyroid conditions could improve CTS.

Both diabetes and low thyroid are imbalances in the endocrine system. One uncorrected imbalance leads to another over time.

The endocrine glands are the pineal and pituitary in the head, the thyroid and parathyroid in the throat, and the pancreas, adrenals, ovaries and testes in the abdomen. They secrete hormones directly into the blood.

The nervous system controls the endocrine system. Chiropractic adjustments help bring the nervous system back into balance. And an individualized health scan can indicate your appropriate nutritional needs.

Chiropractic care and nutrition can be part of your winning combination for optimal wellness.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Many people are finding that they have pain in their wrist, hand, finger and/or arms.

Sometimes they have numbness, tingling, burning, weakness or loss of grip strength, and loss of sleep due to awakening with pain and discomfort.

These symptoms may increase after using the computer's mouse, art or craft work or other repetitive stress to the wrist.

When you come into the office with these symptoms, we do an examination to find what is causing and contributing to your pain and discomfort. Often there are misalignment of one or more of the 8 bones in the wrist, the carpal bones. Tightness of the muscles of the arm, and misalignments in the elbow, neck and back may be part of the problem.

Poor nutrition, lack of stretching and environmental toxins are other interferences to your health that may be contributing to this problem.

Whatever the cause and contributing interferences, we address all of them with our treatments. We are happy to have the electromagnetic adjusting instrument that makes realigning the bones and joints easy and painless. The percussor quickly relieves tension that may be causing or worsening the problem. The cold laser treats the nerves, ligaments, tendons and muscles -- all to relieve your problem painlessly and as quickly as possible.

The ionic foot bath helps with detoxification.
We also give you many ways to help yourself.

Hope you have a happy, healthy holiday season.

Thanksgiving and overeating

Thanksgiving and overeating are right around the corner. The turkey may not be the only one who ends up stuffed and uncomfortable.

Fortunately, you don't need to suffer. The nerves that go to all of your digestive organs originate in your spinal cord.

Specific chiropractic adjustments to the spinal vertebra can relieve irritation that cause the organs to react with pain and discomfort.

In the wellness model, to achieve optimal health, you need to address all aspects of the problem. Your diet and lifestyle may be contributing to the problem.

Nutritional supplements such as Total Enzymes can help with digestion from the start so that you digest all of your food better. You can avoid acid reflux from the start.

If you forget to take your enzymes, or don't have the Total Enzymes, and you do end up with acid reflux, take a couple of Total Enzymes and you can usually get rid of the unpleasant consequences.

Total Probiotics helps your digestion by supplying your intestines with healthy flora. Many types of the good bacteria are needed to sustain life. Total Probiotics provide all of the good bacteria and the food they need so that the right bacteria survive.

If you get an imbalance of the wrong type of bacteria, you end up with bloating and gas. The Total Probiotics help you avoid that type of discomfort.

We provide our patients with all aspects of the wellness care in our office.

About us

We want to inform people about their natural health care options. Wellness care has become so complex that it may seem confusing and at times overwhelming. Since both doctors have spent many years studying a holistic approach to natural health, we would like to clarify some of the questions people may have.

We opened Aldenville Chiropractic in 1985 on Grattan Street in Chicopee. We are in a newer office, still on Grattan Street, a little closer to the exit for I391 than our original location.

Our office is a place where people come in to relax and be treated with kindness and consideration while they are finding relief from health challenges. They receive the care and education they need to maintain their optimal health, fitness and wellness.

Even though we are treating the third generation of patients since we opened our doors, we stay on the cutting edge of science and technology. We use instruments for adjusting that are comfortable and quick for our patients. We continually update our therapies.

We added cold laser less than a month after it was FDA approved for chiropractic treatments. This therapy allows us to treat many chronic and difficult conditions painlessly, as well as more quickly and effectively.

We also use the most powerful percussion instument available and myfascial therapy to deeply relieve tension. We have procedures and therapies to remove pollutants and toxins that accumulate in people's bodies just because the noxious materials are everywhere! ...

Dr. Charles E. Samson focuses on helping people injured in auto accidents as well as those suffering from the wear and tear of daily living.

He is our resident expert in diagnostic imaging, with more than 3 years of concentrated postdoctoral radiology and diagnostic imaging studies.

He also continues his advanced training and practice in spinal correction, chiropractic management of chronic pain, and myofascial therapy. He focuses on neuromusculoskeletal health and wellness.

Dr. Anastacia D. Samson is the only doctor in the greater Springfield area certified in the 6 Steps to Wellness. She also has a Master's degree in Psychology.

While reestablishing structural, neurological and cranial-sacral integrity with chiropractic adjusting, she adds assistance with stress reduction, emotional release, detoxification, nutritional support, and life style enhancement.

She is happy to accept patients with chronic and difficult health challenges.

TMJ - It's In your Head!

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is a joint with a disc located just in the front of the ear. It is the most used joint in the body. You use your TMJ when you chew, swallow, talk and yawn. You may hear a clicking, crunching or grinding sound when using your jaw. You may even bite the inside of your mouth when eating. These are some of the indications of a TMJ problem.

Many symptoms may be caused by TMJ dysfunction. Symptoms you may notice are pain in your jaw, face, neck, ear or head. You may have headaches, even migraines. You may feel dizzy; have ringing in the ears, decreased hearing or a sensation of pressure or fullness in the ears.

TMJ pain may be caused by stress, a whiplash injury, a fall, tooth loss, surgery and dental work. Up to 78% of Americans may have TMJ problems. The TMJ joint may become misaligned. Misaligned joints in the neck may also contribute to TMJ pain. Additionally, the 68 pairs of muscles that surround the TMJ must function properly to allow painless motion of your TMJ.

We are chiropractic physicians trained to restore function and health to the joints, nerves and muscles. With an examination to determine the cause of your TMJ pain, they can provide chiropractic adjustments to realign the joints causing the dysfunction. Myofascial therapy and cold laser treatment could help relieve the neuromusculoskeletal pain.

J. Vaughn, Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) works closely with the doctors. He can provide the deep muscle work needed to treat the 68 pairs of muscles that contribute to this complex and painful condition.

pain relief.
